Wine and olive oil are best sellers - The Centro Prodotti Locali in Kanramachi, Japan, set up to promote the sale of Italian products, recently ordered 6,000 bottles of wine from Certaldo wineries.

The same organization intends to place future orders with six additional companies that brought samples to Kanramachi during a February import-export meeting.

There is significant interest in olive oil as well.

Trade between the two cities - both current and future - is fostered by a sister-city agreement, and includes several area wineries such as Cantina Sociale, Poggio Regini, Vegni Vasco, Poggio ai Grilli and I Fossati.

Olive oil manufacturer Oleificio Valdelsano has also received a request for products.

The mayor of Certaldo, Andrea Campinoti said recently: "We are pleased to add an economic element to our existing cultural connection with Japan. The role of the city is to provide contacts to local businesses, after which they are responsible for creating business arrangements with foreign partners."
