Juve buoyant ahead of Lazio

Juventus was buoyant ahead of Sunday night's clash with Lazio that could put it in touch with Serie A leaders Inter Milan.

Juve thrashed Catania 3-0 in the Italian Cup on Wednesday and Italy goalie Gianluigi Buffon, returning after injury, said: ''I've found a stronger team on my return''.

Midfielder Christian Zanetti was another influential presence against Catania after months out with injury and Juve coach Claudio Ranieri is looking forward to having Mauro Camoranesi and David Trezeguet back in his squad.

Juve is now four points behind Inter after the leaders could only draw against Cagliari last week.

Ranieri has been growing less modest about Juve's title ambitions and the Turin club could close the gap to a point if it beats seventh-placed Lazio and Inter fails to get a result at 11th-placed Atalanta earlier in the day.

Buffon and the solid Juventus defence will have to be on their toes in their visit to the Olimpico with Lazio strikers Goran Pandev and Mauro Zarate in impressive form.

Both shone in last week's 3-2 win at 19th-placed Reggina - where Pandev got a hat-trick - and the club is keen to get into the Champions League qualification zone.

The Romans are currently four points adrift of third-placed AC Milan, three behind Napoli and two behind Fiorentina and Genoa.

Inter coach Jose' Mourinho is set to field Adriano against Atalanta in Bergamo after the Brazil striker, out for several matches with a question mark over his work rate, bustled hard and scored in Inter's 3-1 win over Genoa in the Italian Cup Tuesday.

AC Milan, nine points behind Inter and five behind Juve, appears unruffled by Manchester City's approach to Brazil star Kaka and will be looking for some more brilliance from Kaka's international teammate Pato against fifth-placed Fiorentina on Saturday night after the 18-year-old's two great goals in last week's 2-2 draw at Roma.

David Beckham, who made his debut at the Olimpico, will be hoping to make his San Siro bow against the Florentines, who are joint fifth alongside Genoa.

Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino will be hoping to continue his strong goalscoring run against his old club.

Gilardino is second in the marksmen's standings with 12 goals, one ahead of Inter's Zlatan Ibrahmovic and Juve's Amauri.

Roma, last year's runners up behind Inter, climbed to 8th after beating Sampdoria in a make-up match Wednesday and are looking to continue their comeback at 18th-placed Torino.

Napoli, a point behind Milan in fourth, travel to bottom club Chievo.
