Juve set to revive trident

Juve set to revive tridentJuventus coach Claudio Ranieri is expected to dust off his daring trident formation on his return to former club Fiorentina on Sunday.

The last time he played David Trezeguet, Alessandro Del Piero and Vincenzo Iaquinta together up front was two weeks ago at Roma, where it paid dividends as the Turin outfit pegged back Serie A's then leaders to a 2-2 draw.

With Iaquinta fit again, pundits reckon Ranieri will be tempted to go all out against the club he coached from 1993 and 1997, aiming to keep Juve in touch with new leaders Inter.

However, his midfield has been depleted by the loss of suspended ex-Fiorentina man Cristiano Zanetti.

Juve has 13 points from six games - one less than Serie A champions Inter which knocked Roma off the top with a 1-4 rout at the Olimpico last week.

Fiorentina are a point behind Juve on 12, their recent drive up the table fuelled by ex-Chelsea star Adrian Mutu.

Mutu is one of a clutch of players with four goals, three behind Trezeguet and Inter's Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The rampant Swede scored his fourth double of the season against PSV Eindhoven in midweek and is tipped to expand his haul when fifth-placed Napoli (10 points) visit Milan on Saturday.

Struggling European champs AC Milan have only seven points after four draws and a loss at Palermo.

After a midweek defeat at Celtic, Carlo Ancelotti's men may be apprehensive about their Sunday night visit to buoyant Lazio, who came from behind twice to draw 2-2 against Real Madrid in Rome on Wednesday.

Lazio's in-form Macedonia striker Goran Pandev, who got both goals against the Spanish giants, will be fancying his chances against a Milan defence which has looked shaky of late.

Roma, fourth on 11 points, go to Parma (6 points) without Ludovic Giuly, red-carded against Inter. Luciano Spalletti's side, beaten 1-0 at Manchester United in midweek, are also without Alberto Aquilani.

The Italy midfielder pulled a thigh muscle at Old Trafford and will be out for two months.

The weekend's other fixtures are -

Atalanta (9 points) - Udinese (10)

Sunday 15:00:
Catania (6) - Livorno (2)
Genoa (9) - Cagliari (7)
