The new ''Benessere Valdera'' project proposes an online market for locally grown organic products. Thanks to an Internet portal, by the end of 2008 consumers in the Valdera area and the nearby provinces will be able to do their shopping online.
Producers can put their seasonal fruits and vegetables, meat, cheese and anything else you would find in a normal piazza market online at this virtual market. Through statistics made possible by the website on the number of visitors and the products purchased, producers can adjust their offerings to coincide with customers needs.
The Societa' della Salute in Valdera, the education superintendent of the city of Pontedera and various agricultural business will participate in the project that was carried out by the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa and financed by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio in Volterra.
The objective is to favour the rediscovery of local and organic flavours and promote ''zero miles'' products goods that travel small distances from their origins to the table, thereby creating less pollution.
