Italians kicked off the new year on an optimistic note with many convinced that it will be better than last year.
According to a new poll, 41% of Italians believe 2007 will be a better year, while 23% expect it to be worse than 2006, just under 30% believe it will be the same and 7% had no opinion.
Another 17% said 2007 will be a year of change, while 23% looked at the new year with caution and concern.
The poll, carried out by the National Association of Consumer Cooperatives Ancc, also quizzed Italians on how they would spend a little extra cash, if they had some.
Around 30% replied that they would spend it on travel and entertainment, while 26% would spend it on their home and another 26% would invest it in some way.
The rest indicated they would use the extra cash to pay old debts, buy better food, update their technological gadgets and renew their wardrobes, while 4% did not know how they would spend it.
