Maremma olive oil wins third place in SpainMontenero d'Orcia oil third in Mario Solinas competition - Olive oil from the Franci di Montenero d'Orcia press near Grosseto, won third place in the 'medium fruit' category of the Mario Solinas international competition.

The prize was given in Spain and is a classification of the world's best extra-virgin olive oil.

First place in the category went to Greek olive press, Rafteli, while second place went to Portuguese Casa agricola Cortes de cima' in Vidigueira. The verdict was announced in Madrid during a ceremony organized by COI (International Olive Oil Council).

The council is based in Spain and is the largest international olive growers organization.

The council represents approximately 40 countries in the Mediterranean region - the area most adapted to olive cultivation thanks to climactic conditions, quality of the soil and development of growth strategies.

The Solinas prize is given to nine olive growing businesses in three categories (high, medium and light) according to the quantity of oleic acid present. An international jury of experts chose the winners.
