Milan interested in Cassano

AC Milan are interested in signing unsettled Real Madrid striker Antonio Cassano, according to the European champions' managing director.

Adriano Galliani said on Thursday that Milan are only in the market for a forward this summer and admitted that the Italian talent was one of the club's potential targets.

"Let's put him on the list, you all know that I don't dislike him," Galliani told reporters.

Cassano has a reputation for poor discipline and his career has been disrupted by a series of bust-ups with coaches.

He joined Real Madrid from AS Roma in January 2006, but has been unable to command a regular first-team place in Spain, in part because of frosty relations with Fabio Capello.

The 24-year-old has also had trouble keeping his weight down in the Spanish capital.

As a result the player, who has 10 international caps, has fallen out of the Azzurri fold too.

But he remains an exceptionally gifted footballer with enormous potential.

Galliani said on Thursday that Milan had considered buying Cassano before.

He explained that they did not make a bid because the move did not have the support of everyone at the club.

He added that he would now see if the mood had changed.

Galliani reiterated Milan's interest in Barcelona's Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o on Thursday too.

He stressed that Milan are in no rush to make signings though:

"We'll know how difficult it is to sign Eto'o (when the transfer market closes) on August 31 at 7pm".

He said the seven-time European champs' patient approach to transfer dealings was in part forced on them by the Italian tax regime.

Galliani claims Spanish clubs find it easier to attract stars because lower taxes mean they can offer higher salaries.

"We'll let the Spanish finish and then we'll arrive," he said.

"Once upon a time we got to the likes of (Ruud) Gullit, (Marco) van Basten, (Dejan) Savicevic and (Zvonimir) Boban right away and we have not suddenly gone gaga We talked to (Thierry) Henry too, but the usual tax story resolved things in the Spaniards' favour".

France star Henry completed his 24-million-euro transfer from Arsenal to Barcelona on Monday.

Real Madrid's decision to fire Fabio Capello and Italian transfer market consultant Franco Baldini may cause Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro to leave the Spanish giants.

Cannavaro, the 2006 European and FIFA World Player of the Year, has been linked to his former club Juventus.
