Beginning this September, it will cost metro, bus and tram riders 50% more to take public transportation in Milan.
The city of Milan will raise tickets from 1 euro to 1.50 euro. To soften the blow, the tickets will now be valid for 90 minutes instead of 75.
The transportation minister explained that the ticket price increases are necessary to replace the 37 million euro lost from government budget cuts.
There will be no price increase for annual pass holders, so regular commuters can avoid the hike by purchasing a yearly subscription and free rides will still be offered to elderly residents.
