Milan 'will solve problems'

AC Milan will solve the problems that have left it bottom of Serie A after two defeats in the first two games, coach Carlo Ancelotti said Monday.

''We'll resolve these problems quickly,'' the coach said, looking ahead to Thursday's UEFA Cup match with FC Zurich and next Sunday's game against high-flying Lazio as ''chances to improve''.

But the coach admitted there was a lot to sort out after Milan's worst start since 1986.

''We are vulnerable at the back, struggle to get the ball back and aren't very incisive in attack,'' he said after a 2-0 away defeat at Genoa followed an opening 2-1 home loss to Bologna.

Ancelotti dismissed speculation that his head was already on the block.

''I spoke with Chairman Silvio Berlusconi and he told me not to worry,'' Ancelotti said.

The coach also denied a widespread suspicion that ex-Barcelona midfielder Ronaldinho had been forced on him.

''It was me who wanted Ronaldinho,'' he said.

Many analysts thought Milan played better in the second half against Genoa without Ronaldinho and Andriy Shevchenko, pulled off at half time.

Of the other pre-championship favourites, Inter and Juventus secured their first wins of the season to lie two points behind Lazio while Fiorentina and Roma lost to remain on one point.

All four are looking to midweek Champions League games for a boost ahead of next weekend's games.

Champions Inter travel to Panathinaikos on Tuesday with coach Jose' Mourinho expected to play his favoured three-man attack of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ricardo Quaresma and Mancini but looking to give Adriano some playing time as back-up to Ibra.

Roma hope to have skipper Francesco Totti back for Tuesday's home game against Cluj of Romania.

Juve host Zenit St Petersburg in their long-awaited return to the Champions League on Wednesday.

Fiorentina go to Lyon the same night.
