Monte dei Paschi di Siena lauded for social responsibilityVigeo gives MPS excellent rating - Monte dei Paschi di Siena is the first bank in Italy to be recognized in the area of social responsibility.

French company Vigeo - the European leader in the furnishing of financial analysis and environmental and social ratings - carried out the evaluation.

The bank will discuss their involvement in this area on November 29 in Brussels during the European Marketplace on CSR forum.

Eight Italian companies were invited to participate - including only two banks.

The Vigeo study examined six areas in an effort evaluate the performance of national financial institutions: client relationships and business ethics, human rights, employee management, environmental protection, corporate governance and community participation.

The MPS group was the only one to exceed the 50/100 point system in the final classification with optimum results regarding transparency.

MPS has been concentrating its efforts on social responsibility since 2001 when it organized a committee of experts including Nobel Prize winners Amartya Sen and Robert Solow.

The goal is to concentrate on the importance of social responsibility to create a sustainable economy that will positively influence the collective good.
