More Italian men consider plastic surgery

Half of Italian men between the ages of 30 and 50 have made an appointment with a specialist to discuss having plastic surgery or other appearance-related procedures, according to a report presented at the National Congress of Italian Plastic Surgeons on Friday.

Plastic surgery specialist Giovanni Salti said that only around 20-30% go through with the process, however.

''Men who come to see plastic surgeons are especially those between 30 and 40 who want to fit in at the gym and the disco as well as professional managers in their 50s,'' Salti said.

''The most requested procedures are reabsorbable fillers, laser depilation, botox treatments and lip retouching,'' he revealed.

''At least 50% of men who resort to plastic surgery are gay,'' he added.

While men are inspired to consider surgery by well-preserved screen idols such as George Clooney, Salti said that the search for beauty was becoming increasingly personalised.

''In general, men - but also women - are making less reference to 'standard' models,'' he explained.
