Mutu extends Fiorentina contract

Fiorentina's Romania striker Adrian Mutu on Monday extended his contract to 2012 after turning down a formal bid from AS Roma last week.

The 29-year-old failed to bite at an offer from the Rome club that would have given him 3.5 million euros a year after Fiorentina offered a salary raise and an extension on his former contract, which ran until 2011.

The former Chelsea and Juventus star has scored 33 goals in 62 games since joining the Florentine side two years ago.

He also has a remarkably high strike rate for his country with 29 goals in 64 appearances - the last against Italy at Euro 2008.

A formal announcement from Fiorentina was expected later on Monday.
