Female team run project with applications in biomedicine - Three female students from Pisa will present their project on nanotechnology's potential application in the biomedical field to the business community in Silicon Valley, California.
The students won the first edition of the 'Mind the Bridge' competition, a non-profit initiative that promotes research and Italian entrepreneurship aimed at strengthening economic relations with the U.S.
The project is called 'Nano4Bio' and is the fruit of the all-women team of scientists from the University of Pisa and the CNR in Bologna.
It is considered an innovative project for businesses, in particular to offer large pharmaceutical industries 'new systems able to render more efficient, controllable and economical the techniques of cellular cultivation, fundamental in the experimentation of new pharmaceutics'.
The Pisan students - Beatrice Chelli, Eleonora Da Pozzo and Ilaria Tonazzini - carried out a significant portion of the research, working in tandem with other young people from various European countries and different scientific backgrounds.
Other members of the winning team include Eva Bystrenova, Antonietta Rizzo, Adina N.Lazar and Sabrina Morbidelli, from CNR Bologna. The 'Mind the Bridge' is sponsored by 'Business Association Italy-America', 'Silicon Valley Executive Council', 'First generation network', and the U.S. Embassy in Rome's 'Partnership for growth' programme.
