Italy and the United States share the same ideals of freedom, democracy and progress, Italian Head of State told US President George Bush in a message to mark the American holiday of Independence Day.
Napolitano added that these and other shared values and principles were the foundation for "the friendship, collaboration and alliance between our two countries, which have taken root through a spirit of loyalty and mutual
respect".
"I remain convinced that in the future the United States and Italy will continue to unite their efforts, both on a bilateral level and in multinational forums, in a common commitment towards a stable, just and peaceful international order," the Italian president added.
