Fiat said on Thursday that it has no plans to increase its capital, to merge with other companies in the automotive sector or to seek credit to do so.
The Italian automotive giant issued its statement in reply to Italian stock market regulator Consob after the watchdog had asked for clarification in regard to market and press speculation.
''It is a well-known fact that this group, as well as our competitors, examines the various opportunities which arise for accords capable of creating productive savings and gaining access to new markets,'' the statement added.
Fiat also said that it would resort to any and all legal protection necessary to protect itself from the consequences of false press and market rumors.
