NATO has ''no doubt'' Italy will stick to treaty obligations on the use of bases, a spokesman said after Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini assured that last weekend's Libya-Italy pact did not call treaties into question.
Frattini was forced to speak out after Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said the colonial reparation and cooperation accord included a pledge not to allow bases in Italy to be used for possible future attacks on Libya by NATO or the United States..
NATO spokesman James Appathurai said Frattini's assurances in Wednesday's Italian press made it plain that Italy would respect treaties.
''We have no doubt on this,'' Appathurai said.
