The funeral of an Italian soccer fan shot by police on Sunday went off without incident on Wednesday.
Thousands of fellow supporters of Gabriele Sandri's club Lazio attended the ceremony along with the captain of cross-city rivals Roma, Francesco Totti, who could not hold back tears.
Hard-core fans later staged a protest march to the Olympic Stadium, around which hundreds of Lazio and Roma supporters rampaged on Sunday night.
But there was no repeat of that violence, which a Rome prosecutor on Wednesday described as ''unprecedented''.
''By attacking three police stations, they were trying to wrest control from the state,'' the prosecutor said.
The policeman who shot the 26-year-old Roman DJ may face charges of voluntary manslaughter, prosecutors confirmed Wednesday.
Italy is set to bring in fresh anti-hooligan measures in the wake of Sunday's rioting in Rome and other cities.
