Italian oil and natural gas imports from non-EU countries accounted for 35.2% of total non-EU Italian imports in the first quarter of 2008 compared to 29.5% in the same period in 2007, Italian statistics bureau ISTAT said Tuesday.
The trade deficit for crude oil and natural gas stood at 15.272 bln euros ($24.366 bln) in the first quarter of 2008, up from 11.735 bln euros ($18.723 bln) in the same period in 2007.
In 2008, without oil or gas, Italy posted a trade surplus of 8.402 bln euros ($13.405 bln), up from 4.806 bln euros ($7.668 bln) in 2007.
