Massa Marittima (near Grosseto) recently hosted the 12th edition of Selezione Olio Extravergine d'Oliva delle Colline Metallifere, which saw 30 olive oils in competition with four different sections to judge the best of the best.
The goal was to name the best olive oil of the year - an honour that takes into consideration chemical analysis done by the Studio Ambiente di Grosseto and the Panel Test by the Associazione A.PR.OL in Grosseto.
Participating mills were divided into four sections, and the winners were as follows:
In the Light Intensity category, first place went to Braglia Tevio in Massa Marittima, second place to Serraiola in Monterotondo Marittimo, and third place to Fattoria di Peruzzo in Roccatederighi.
Medium Intensity category winners were: I Campetti in Ribolla, second place to Morisfarms Srl in Massa Marittima, and third place to Soc. Bruchi Luca e Tania in Roccastrada.
Intense category winners were Podere San Giorgio in Roccastrada, second place to La Novella Srl in Massa Marittima, and third to La Pierotta in Scarlino.
The overall winners were Vecchio Frantoio in Scarlino; Frantoio Sociale in Massa Marittima; and Zanaboni Franco in Massa Marittima.
