One third of national gold production in Arezzo

According to recent estimates, 130 tons of gold were worked (80 tons of silver) in Arezzo during 2006, creating 1,340 million euro in exports.

The news, released in an Irpet analysis on the Italian gold-silver-jewellery sector, shows Arezzo in third place in terms of production in Italy both with regard to economics and employment.

Principal foreign markets (60% of exports) include the UAE, USA, UK, France, Turkey, Spain, Panama, Hong Kong, Germany and Tunisia.

Production in Arezzo is characterized by a high level of industrialization, utilization of advanced technologies and marketing itself on the mid market level.

Main products include gold chains, earrings, rings, bracelets and pendants.

Arezzo production levelled out to 2.4 million euro in 2006 after having reached its peak at 3.1 million in 2000.

80% of the value added income of the area relies on the gold industry and 20% on the silver industry.
