Mascalzone Latino owner-skipper Vincenzo Onorato and Olympic windsurf champion Alessandra Sensini have been nominated for ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year 2008 award.
The two Italian sailors were among the ten shortlisted for the recognition from the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), five men and five women.
Observers believe Sensini and Onorato stand a good chance of winning the award in their respective male and female categories and give Italy a double victory.
This because Sensini, thanks to her silver medal at Beijing 2008, has become the first woman to win four Olympic medals in sailing; while Onorato, who was also up for the award last year, has won the Farr 40 world title for the past three years in a row, as well as taken part in the last two editions of the America's Cup.
The winners will be announced and prizes handed out at a gala in Madrid on November 11, during the ISAF's annual meeting.
