Palermo Chairman cited

Palermo Chairman Maurizio Zamparini has been cited by Italian soccer's disciplinary prosecutor for criticising the referee in Sunday's 1-0 loss at Torino.

Zamparini's remarks suggested that referees and other officials were having an undue effect on matches, the prosecutor said.

A disciplinary panel will now assess the prosecutor's charges.

The Palermo owner, who is known for post-match outbursts, claimed Sunday's refereeing ''hurt us scientifically'' and described a sending-off as ''a disgrace, a low blow aimed at Palermo''.

He said he would complain to referee selector Pierluigi Collina, the world's former No.1 ref, but added that Collina and the head of the Italian referee association, Cesare Gussoni, ''also make a lot of mistakes''.

Journalists also came under attack from the fiery Palermo boss, who called them ''pigs''.

Palermo started the season with Champions League ambitions but have slipped to 10th place in Serie A, eight points behind leaders Inter Milan.

The Turin loss was their fifth defeat in 11 matches.
