Serie A club Palermo has sacked Stefano Colantuono as coach after only one match of the season, bringing in former Cagliari coach Davide Ballardini.

Palermo went down 3-1 at Udinese on Sunday.

A week before they were eliminated from the Italian Cup by third-division Ravenna.

Colantuono was sacked by Palermo last year but got his job back later in the campaign.

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini is seen as one of the quickest sackers in a league with a high coach turnover.

Zamparini told a press conference he had felt ''ashamed'' of Palermo's recent displays.

New coach Ballardini kept Cagliari in Serie A last season after taking over when they were in last place.

He recently failed to agree terms with the Sardinian club.
