The Ben Rye di Pantelleria, produced by the Donnafugata winery, won the overall gold medal at the 5th edition of the international wine competition The Mayor s Selection while Passito di Pantelleria won the silver medal.
The companies from the Abruzzo region also performed well winning three golden and 27 silver medals in the different categories.
The competition, promoted by the Citta' del Vino association, the European Recevin network and In Comune Spa, has linked the name of the producer to the name of the public administration of the territory where the winery is located. The winemakers were allowed to participate only with the participation of the Municipality.
According to the organisers, this is a way to confirm the link between the quality wines and the territory of their origin, but also an instrument to underline the alliance between winemakers and local institutions. The international jury made of experts from different Italian regions as well as from Austria, France, Germany, Japan, Moldova, Poland, Spain and Hungary selected the winners among over 600 bottles coming from 150 Italian, Austrian, French, German and Hungarian cities of wine
