Police have arrested two people they believe were responsible for the murder last October of a promising young soccer player here in this southeast Italian city.
Giovanni Montani, 18, was riding in his car on the night of October 29 when his vehicle was riddled with gunfire. He was rushed to hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life but died shortly after his arrival.
Those arrested on Friday were listed as Gaetano Capodiferro, 23, and Giuseppe Amoruso, 22. They have been charged with murder and illegal possession of firearms.
Montani was a rising star in the youth league of the second division club Bari.
Although he had no criminal record, he was the nephew of a local organised crime boss who has been in prison for the last 15 years, Andrea Montani.
