Kimi Raikkonen on Tuesday made his debut behind the wheel of the Ferrari he will be driving in the upcoming Formula 1 season: the F2007.

Raikkonen, who this season joined Ferrari, tested the car the Italian team fielded during the 2006 season, the 248F1, last week at the Vallelunga track north of Rome.

The Finn, who replaced seven-time champion Michael Schumacher on at the Scuderia, took the F2007 out on the track both in the morning and in the afternoon.

As in Rome, however, Raikkonen's debut with the Ferrari was marred by rain, although the weather was better in the afternoon.

The F2007 is Ferrari's 53rd Grand Prix racer and is visibly different from the 248F1 due to a longer nose to accommodate a new front suspension system, while the side ventilation pods have been redesigned for a revamped cooling system.

The new car is also heavier than its predecessor and has a longer wheel base, while its rear is narrower thanks to a more streamlined gearbox housing for the all-new 'quick shift' transmission.

In accordance with Formula 1 regulations, the engine is basically the same as the one used last year, although Ferrari was able to make some limited changes to its 056 motor while remaining under the 19,000 RPM limit.

The 2007 Formula 1 season begins March 18 with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
