Flash News - Retail sales in July were up by only 0.1% over July 2006 but rose 0.7% over June, national statistics bureau Istat reported on Tuesday.
Food sales in July dipped 0.8% over the same month last year while sales of non-food products climbed 0.6%.
Compared to June, Istat's seasonally adjusted retail sales index fell by 0.2%.
The greatest increases in sales were for footwear and leather goods, up 1.8% over July 2006, as well as photo and optical goods, +1.7%, while sales fell for home appliances, TVs and radios, down 0.9%, and computers and telecommunications. -0.8%, Istat said.
