AS Roma Chairman Franco Sensi has died, club sources said Monday.
Sensi, who had been ill for some time, was 82.
The oilman took over the Roman club in 1993 and bankrolled its third scudetto in 2001 as well as two Italian Cups in the last two seasons.
During Sensi's term Roma joined Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan as one of the Big Four of Italian soccer.
The club, which is currently run by Sensi's daughter Rosella, was runner-up in the last two league campaigns.
Juve, Milan and Inter all posted tributes to Sensi on their websites.
Fans will be able to pay their respects as Sensi's body lies in state on the Capitol Tuesday ahead of burial Wednesday.
