Rossi out to get back on top

Valentino Rossi vows he has learned from his mistakes at Assen but wants to put the Dutch Grand Prix behind him and win Sunday's race in Germany.

''I was disappointed with myself in Assen because I missed a great chance but I have put that behind me and am completely focused on the next race now,'' the Yamaha rider said ahead of this weekend's German Grand Prix.

''We need to be 100% from the first practice and hopefully we can have a good weekend with no more mistakes,'' the five-time MotoGP champion added.

Rossi, who started on the front row at Assen, crashed on the first corner and although he got back in the race he came in 11th.

Although this will be the first time since the French Grand Prix in mid-May that Rossi will start a race without being at the top of the riders' standings, the 29-year-old champion is not letting that bother him.

''We are going to the Schsenring having lost our championship lead but we're only four points behind so the situation is certainly much better than it was at this point last season,'' Rossi observed.

The Yamaha rider has been on the podium seven out ten races so far this season and has won three times. There are nine more races left.

''Last year in Germany I made a mistake and crashed, and in the last month I also made a mistake and fell, so let's hope I've used up quota of bad luck for the season,'' Rossi said.

''Sachsenring has always been a great track for me and it's a great place to race. The track is very tight and twisty and overall it suits the Yamaha very well. In 2006 I had a fantastic race there, winning from 11th on the starting grid,'' he added.

Although he is only for points behind Spain's Daniel Pedrosa, who as been consistent and his Honda reliable, Rossi's biggest obstacle in his quest to reclaim his crown is reigning world champion Casey Stoner of Australia, who has won the last two races with his Ducati, which has resolved is early season kinks, and is now third in the standings.
