MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi said on Wednesday that he did not think that Honda would withdraw from Grand Prix motorcycling racing, as it recently did from Formula 1.
''Honda pulled out of Formula 1, not MotoGP, because both motor sports are very costly. What we need to do is take action to ensure that there are enough cars and bikes to offer a good show in both sports,'' the eight-time world champion said.
''My personal opinion is that Honda will not pull out of MotoGP,'' the Yamaha rider added.
''We need to come up with good ideas to spend less and overcome this difficult moment. To start with we could spend less on trying to make faster bikes. What people want to see most is riders battling it out, not who has the fastest bike,'' Rossi said.
The MotoGP champ all but ruled out rumors that he may also compete next season in the Superbike championship, where he would come up against his old long-time rival Max Biaggi.
''We'll see but I don't think it will be possible to do both. The difference would be to great, and as hard as switching to Formula 1,'' Rossi explained.
The Yamaha rider flirted with the idea of switching to Formula 1 several years ago but in the end opted to stay on two wheels.
The difference between MotoGP and Superbike racing is that the latter uses stock bikes as opposed to customised factory machines.
