Rubini, Nieto in for Wales

Young winger Giulio Rubini and veteran prop Carlos Nieto were the only two changes in Italy's team for Saturday's Six Nations match against champions Wales at the Stadio Flaminio.

Rubini, 21, who won his first cap as a replacement in last month's 26-6 loss to Scotland, comes in for Mirco Bergamasco who moves back to centre.

Nieto replaces Martin Castrogiovanni who drops to the bench.

Italy are bottom of the table having also lost to England and Ireland and conceding 100 points in all but coach Nick Mallett has resisted the temptation to shake up the squad with Roberto Quartaroli the only debutant as a replacement wing or centre.

Ahead of the match veteran prop Salvatore Perugini denied reports that some senior team members had written to the Italian Rugby Federation to complain about Mallett.

''It's a downright lie,'' he said.

Perugini said Italy, at its current level, could only be expected to beat one of its weaker Six Nations rivals ''if it all clicks on the day''.

He accused the Italian media of ''raising false expectations with all this talk of 'we're going to win here and there', when it just isn't realistic''.

''The foreign media knows the score. We're inferior, and we know it''.

Perugini and Mirco Bergamasco will equal Andrea Lo Cicero's Six Nations record of 35 appearances against the Welsh, who are bidding for another Triple Crown after their Grand Slam hopes were dashed by France.
