Rugby: ‘Real Italy’ wanted for scotsItaly coach Pierre Berbizier expects his men to raise their game in their World Cup showdown with Scotland on Saturday night.

"I expect to see the real Italy," Berbizier said in naming a side containing several changes - some forced by injuries, others by the Azzurris' lacklustre displays so far.

"The time for talking is over. It's time to act, to show the same spirit we had in the Six Nations," Berbizier said.

Italy had its best-ever Six Nations earlier this year, winning two games for the first time, and went into the World Cup as an outsider fancied to challenge the best.

But an opening demolition by the All Blacks was followed by harder-than-expected wins over Romania and Portugal.

Saturday night's match in St Etienne is effectively a knock-out match to see which of the two will go into the quarter-finals.

It would be the first time Italy has progressed so far in the tournament.

The Azzurri will be up against a rested Scottish XV since Scotland coach Frank Hadden left almost all his first-choice men out of their recent widely expected loss to tournament favourites New Zealand.

Italy go into the match without inspirational skipper Marco Bortolami, who is suffering from a neck injury.

Scrumhalf Alessandro Troncon will take over the captaincy in his 101st appearance for his country.

Carlo Del Fava comes in for Bortolami in the second row while blind-side prop Salvatore Perugini takes Andrea Lo Cicero's place and hooker Carlo Festuccia replaces Leonardo Ghiraldini.

In the back row, Berbizier is able to play two thirds of the trio that helped Italy to a historic win in Edinburgh in February: Sergio Parisse as Number Eight and Mauro Bergamasco as Number Seven.

But Alessandro Zanni has been forced home by a muscle injury, making Josh Sole the blind-side flanker.

Troncon will be expected to keep things tight with his powerful pack, only occasionally moving the ball fast for the kicking game of Ramiro Pez, who has returned to the line-up in place of Roland De Marigny as Berbizier seeks more structure and discipline.

There are changes at both wings as Kaine Robertson comes in and Andrea Masi moves out from centre.

Berbizier expects the strong centre duo of Gonzalo Canale and Mirco Bergamasco to challenge Scotland's muscularity in the middle of the park.

Italy have had a ten-day break since their 31-5 win over Portugal and are raring to make history against the Scots.

"We'll give it our all. It's do-or-die this time," said winger Robertson.

Here is the Italy team: 15 David Bortolussi, 14 Kaine Robertson, 13 Gonzalo Canale, 12 Mirco Bergamasco, 11 Andrea Masi, 10 Ramiro Pez, 9 Alessandro Troncon, 8 Sergio Parisse (captain), 7 Mauro Bergamasco, 6 Josh Sole, 5 Carlo Del Fava, 4 Santiago Dellapé, 3 Martin Castrogiovanni, 2 Carlo Festuccia, 1 Salvatore Perugini.

Substitutes: 16 Fabio Ongaro, 17 Andrea Lo Cicero, 18 Valerio Bernabo', 19 Leonardo Ghiraldini, 20 Paul Griffen, 21 Roland De Marigny, 22 Ezio Galon.
