Swiss defender Philippe Senderos on Tuesday moved to AC Milan on a season-long loan deal, joining former Arsenal team-mate Mathieu Flamini.
Milan CEO Adriano Galliani said Senderos would miss the season opener at home to Bologna ''because he has a little problem with his back and told me he'll be ready in about ten days''.
Galliani said that with Brazil ace Ronaldinho and Ukraine star Andriy Shevchenko joining Kaka' and Alexandre Pato, coach Carlo Ancelotti had all he needed to take Milan's first league title since 2004.
''I think Ancelotti must be very happy with the transfer market and now it's up to him to win the scudetto,'' said Galliani.
Milan finished fifth last year, failing to make the Champions League, as Inter Milan ran away with the title for the third straight year despite stuttering late on to give Roma a look-in.
Senderos, 23, played 115 times for Arsenal between 2003 and 2008, scoring four goals.
The 23-year-old, who is of Spanish/Serbian descent, has 31 Swiss caps and has scored three goals for his country.
The Italian soccer season started last Sunday with the traditional opener, the Italian Super Cup, which Inter won against Roma on penalties.
In previous years the Cup showcase has been the first big match for a long time.
But this year will be different as the coming weekend sees Fiorentina host Juventus and Sampdoria entertain Inter.
It is the first time in many years when big guns have not been seeded to avoid such clashes at the beginning or end of a season.
AC Milan will host Inter on the fifth day and Roma will welcome Inter on the seventh day.
Here are the season's opening fixtures on August 30-31:
Atalanta-Siena
Cagliari-Lazio
Catania-Genoa
Chievo-Reggina
Fiorentina-Juventus
Milan-Bologna
Roma-Napoli
Sampdoria-Inter
Torino-Lecce
Udinese-Palermo
