The wine a person chooses to drink may also hold a key to their sexual identity, according to an Italian winemaker who has created wines for the male, the female and the ''ambiguous''.
Aside from making wine at his organic vineyard in the Abruzzo region, Franco D'Eusanio also dabbles in philosophy and is convinced that everyone is not just male or female and that these aspects of their personality can be identified through their sense of taste.
''Our personality is a complex combination of our different 'souls' which manifest themselves through our desires,'' D'Eusanio observed.
''Taking this into account, we have sought to link the right taste to the right personality, starting with the choice of grapes used in the wine,'' he added.
The result was the 'masculine' red wine 'Is', the feminine white wine 'Ea' and the rose' 'Id', for those of undetermined or ambiguous inclinations.
These three wines, D'Eusanio explained, are ''a clear and simple way to understand not only more about wine but also something about ourselves, our tastes and propensities''.
In order to make the choice between the wines easier, D'Eusanio has included with the bottles a psychological test and a questionnaire on habits and sexual behavior which he claims will help the buyer ''look within themselves and discover their true sexual identity''.
The consumer will then be able to verify this by tasting the wine.
D'Eusanio gave a preview tasting of his three wines here in the Italian capital on Tuesday, while their official presentation will be made in Verona at Vinitaly, Italy's most important wine trade fair which opens on Wednesday and runs through Monday.
