Sicily to get 3 MLN for archeological parksA total of 3 million euros ($4.3 mln) will be spent over the next three years to support archaeological parks in Sicily, Italian Culture Minister Francesco Rutelli said at the weekend.

The project envisages 1.0 million ($1.5 mln) being allocated per year, Rutelli said during the 5th edition of National conference of representatives of Italian sites in the list of UNESCO, held on December 15-16 in Florence.

Sicily's regional government official in charge of cultural heritage, Lino Leanza, attended the event and expressed his satisfaction over the promised financial support.

Italy has 40 sites of UNESCO's World Heritage List, including the historical centres of Florence, Rome, Pienza and Naples. (ANSA).
