Pescia and Viareggio to be managed by one body - The two Tuscan flower markets, Pescia and Viareggio, will soon have a single management system. the region's agriculture superintendent, Susanna Cenni, announced the news during a flower growing convention in Lucca.
Cenni explained: ''There will still be two locations - Pescia and Viareggio - but there will be just one 'body' that will allow both of them to better market themselves by renewing their services and activating synergies that are not currently possible. The new system was agreed upon by institutions and producers''.
The two markets sell 70% of flowers produced in Tuscany.
In addition, both markets do some nursery trade and Viareggio also sells some fruit and vegetables.
Combined, the markets do more than 100 million euro in business annually.
There are one thousand agricultural businesses and commercial enterprises that operate in the two structures (656 at the Comicent in Pescia, 348 in Viareggio) in addition to the numerous companies that work in related industries.
There are 93 million flowers and fronds and 36 million potted plants produced annually.
The most popular flowers produced in Tuscany are roses, followed by carnations, chrysanthemums, iris, callas and gladiolas.
