Soccer: serie A back after trouble

Soccer: serie A back after troubleSerie A is back this weekend for the first time since the police shooting of a Lazio fan sparked widespread violence and the cancellation of three games two weeks ago.

Two of the teams that now have a game in hand, leaders Inter and Atalanta, meet in Milan on Saturday night.

Inter have 25 points, Fiorentina 23, and Juventus, Roma and Udinese 22 - four more than Atalanta and Palermo.

Charismatic Italy defender Marco Materazzi looks set for his first action since August as champs Inter take on the Bergamo-based side.

''I'm looking for a chance to show I've shaken off the injury,'' Materazzi said after coming through a reserves game on Wednesday.

Earlier on Saturday Roma travel to 11th-placed Genoa without captain Francesco Totti, who nixed any chance of a return by hitting the ground instead of the ball with his injured right foot during training Thursday.

But the Romans will have Brazilian striker Rodrigo Taddei and France defender Philippe Mexes back from injury.

Juventus host 7th-placed Palermo on Sunday night with Mauro Camoranesi and Raffaele Palladino challenging Alessandro Del Piero for a winger's spot.

Both forwards put in solid displays in the Euro 2008 qualifiers that meant Serie A had a weekend off anyway - Camoranesi in the Scotland clincher on Saturday and Palladino against the Faroe Islands.

Juve's Portugal midfielder Tiago is set to return after injury but Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini is suspended.

Udinese host 16th-placed Siena after stunning Fiorentina in Florence last time out to join Roma in joint fourth.

European champions AC Milan are still 11 points behind Inter but like them have a game in hand after crowd trouble halted their match at Atalanta.

AC hope to have Ronaldo available for the first time this season when they travel to 17th-placed Cagliari, five points below them.

Juventus-Palermo, Fiorentina-Reggina and Udinese-Siena are three of the four matches not affected by bans on travelling supporters implemented after the November 11 trouble. The other is Lazio-Parma.

Among the six matches affected by travel bans is a 9th-place face-off between Catania and Napoli.

Napoli supporters had already received two travel bans before the violence that followed the fan's death.
