Spider-Man 3 smashed Italian box office records when it opened across the country this week, raking in almost three million euros on its first day.
The final instalment of the superhero trilogy hit cinema screens here on Tuesday, three days earlier than its American release date.
Some 450,000 fans flocked to see the comic-book-based blockbuster, which is again directed by Sam Raimi with a returning cast that includes Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.
The previous premiere box office record was held by The Da Vinci Code, which took some 2 million euros on its opening day in May 2006.
