An Italian researcher has conceived a theory he says might one day create suits like the adhesive costume worn by comics superhero Spiderman.
Nicola Pugno of Turin Polytechnic believes tiny "hooked molecules" could be used to create a possible carbon-fiber glue that would theoretically enable people to crawl up walls and on ceilings like the Marvel Comics legend.
According to a research paper published by Pugno in the Journal of Physics, the glue would also be resistant to water and dirt.
At the moment a real Spiderman suit is the stuff of dreams but such a glue could soon have practical applications in gloves and boots for skyscraper window cleaners and suits for deep-sea divers, Pugno says.
