Azzurri striker Luca Toni's move from Fiorentina to Bayern Munich is the first big deal of the Italian soccer market, which officially kicks off Friday.
On Wednesday Bayern Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed the German club have agreed to pay 11 million euros for Toni, a member of Italy's World Cup-winning squad.
His contract will run until June 2011.
Fiorentina told fans Monday that the striker will play for the German giants next season, but Bayern had not confirmed the buy until Wednesday.
On Wednesday afternoon Fiorentina said some details of the move still had to be hammered out.
Toni, who scored 47 Serie A goals in two seasons in Florence, will fly to Munich on June 8 for medical checks and his official presentation.
Pundits say the next big deal of the summer transfer market may bring Andriy Shevchenko back to AC Milan.
The 2004 European Footballer of the Year joined Chelsea last summer for 45 millions euros.
But he has struggled to get used to the English league and relations are reportedly strained with coach Jose Mourinho.
Milan Chairman and former Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi has said the doors are "wide open" for Shevchenko to come back.
Chelsea Chief Executive Peter Kenyon is expected to come to Milan soon to find out how much the European champs are willing to pay to have the Ukraine star back.
Shevchenko, 30, became Milan's all-time second-highest scorer in his seven years at the San Siro Stadium. His 173 goals helped the team win the Italian championship, the Italian Cup, the European Champions League and the European Super Cup.
If Milan fail to bring him back, alternative targets are Barcelona's Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o and his super-star team-mate in Spain, Brazil's Ronaldinho.
However, the signing of Shevchenko, Eto'o or Ronaldinho could cause Milan to lose Italy forward Alberto Gilardino, their top scorer last season with 16 goals in all competitions.
The 24-year-old is believed to fear that the arrival of a big name could see him spending too much time on the bench.
Ronaldo has become Milan's first-choice forward since joining the club from Real Madrid in January.
Gilardino faces stiff competition from Filippo Inzaghi for second place in the pecking order, which does not guarantee a slot in the starting line-up because Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti often fields just one all-out striker.
So another star on the roster would make things even tougher for Gilardino.
Newly promoted Juventus are favourites to give Gilardino a home, if he starts looking for a new club, but Fiorentina are also in the market for a good forward.
Milan are reportedly interested in Real Madrid's Brazil midfielder Emerson too.
Emerson has a proven track record in Serie A after successful stints at AS Roma and Juventus.
On Wednesday Hernan Crespo's agent announced that Chelsea have foregone their right to recall the Argentina striker from his loan spell at Serie A champs Inter.
This has opened the way for a new deal which will keep Crespo at Inter until 2010.
Inter are trying to persuade Luis Figo to stay on another season, after the Portuguese star revealed his transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad has fallen through.
Inter are seeking to tempt Romanian defender Cristian Chivu away from Roma, as well.
