AS Roma skipper Francesco Totti could be back in action in the Italian SuperCup against Inter Milan on August 24, coach Luciano Spalletti said Monday.
Spalletti said Totti was making a surprisingly fast comeback from a foot injury and ''could well play a part'' in the Italian Cup holders umpteenth showdown with champions Inter.
Speaking at Roma's first pre-season training camp, Spalletti said: ''Totti really put a lot of work in during the holidays, he's a determined lad''.
''We'll see if he can make the SuperCup, he seems to be going for it''.
Spalletti congratulated Totti's physio Silio Musa on his ''tremendous work''.
Totti injured his right knee when he hit a powerful shot against Livorno on April 20 and missed the rest of the Serie A season.
The knee had already been playing up and kept him out of Roma's Champions League matches against Manchester United.
Despite the injury, the striker ended the season as Roma's top scorer with 14 goals.
He had his best season ever the previous year and won the European Golden Boot with 26 goals.
Totti retired from the Italian national team in 2006 after winning the World Cup with the Azzurri.
In February 2006 he suffered a major fracture in his lower fibula that sidelined him in the last part of the season.
He has since played with a metal plate attached to his ankle.
Roma beat Inter in June to win the Italian Cup, shortly after Inter clinched the Serie A title on the last day of the season.
