Roma skipper Francesco Totti will be out for ''about 30 days'' with a thigh muscle injury suffered in Sunday's 3-2 defeat at Catania, club doctors said Monday.
They said they would give a more precise recovery estimate after Totti has further tests in the next few days.
Totti's departure from the pitch Sunday spelled the end of Roma's eight-match winning streak in all competitions.
The Romans' run, fueled by Totti's return to fitness, lifted them from near the relegation zone to 10th but they are still 19 points behind leaders Inter.
The muscle injury spurred initial fears that Totti might miss Roma's Champions League clash with Arsenal in February.
But a month-long stop could mean him only missing Roma's next match at Torino when Serie A resumes after its long winter break on January 18.
