Totti says prefers Champions

AS Roma skipper Francesco Totti says he'd prefer the club's first-ever Champions League title to the scudetto.

''I'd much rather win that title than another league championship,'' said Totti, whose GialloRossi won the league in 2001.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's Roman derby with Lazio, the former Italy star said that ''the showcase offered by European competition would get me closer to the Ballon d'Or''.

Totti, 31, has never won the European Footballer of the Year award despite being in the running several times.

A good Champions display against Manchester United in next month's quarter-finals, and hopefully even better ones if Roma goes on, would up his chances this year.

But Roma are still hoping to close a six-point gap on Inter that remained the same after Roma's win against Milan and Inter's against Palermo, Totti said.

''Of course, we're still thinking of getting past Inter,'' he said.

''A scudetto conquered after such a long struggle to catch them would taste specially sweet,'' he said.

With ten games to go, Roma face 11th-placed Lazio at the Olimpico with Montenegrin striker Mirko Vucinic on a high after his match-winning strike against Milan in Rome Saturday.

Lazio, in 11th slot, are expected to have Macedonian striker Goran Pandev back up front to combine with Italy's Tommaso Rocchi and ex-Manchester City man Rolando Bianchi in a three-man attack.

Inter travel to 10th-placed Genoa with the aftershocks of coach Roberto Mancini's Yes-No quit affair still rumoured to rumbling along - although the team didn't appear too shaken as they beat Palermo 2-1 on Sunday.

The Italian press made much Monday of Sweden star Zlatan Ibrahimovic's apparent dissent with Mancini after he was hauled off near the end of the win.

Several dailies said lip-readers caught Ibra saying ''let's hope he really is leaving'' but all Mancini would say was ''he'll get over it''.

Back in third, Juventus beat Napoli 1-0 to stay seven points behind Roma and four ahead of Fiorentina, who beat Genoa 3-1 to leapfrog Milan into fourth place.

Milan host Sampdoria - four points below them in sixth - on Wednesday night while Fiorentina go to 12th-placed Napoli.
