Totti 'working hard' for return

Roma striker Francesco Totti is already working hard to recover from injury in time for Roma's Champions League quarter-final second leg at Manchester United next week, his trainer said Monday.

''Francesco is all fired up and doing his utmost to make it for the return leg,'' Vito Scala told an Italian soccer radio station.

''We're not too worried about the injury but we have to take it in stages. For now, Francesco is working on his upper body. His thigh is completely strapped''.

The iconic skipper injured a thigh muscle in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Cagliari, knocking him out of the first leg against Utd here Tuesday.

Totti has been carrying a knee injury all season but has still been Roma's top scorer and most valuable player.

The ex-Italy star is desperate to help Roma avenge last year's 7-1 drubbing at Old Trafford, the worst defeat in its European history.

Roma boss Luciano Spalletti said Monday that Roma, which is fighting Inter for the Serie A championship, was now ''more mature'' than a year ago.

But he said United, which the British press likened to the great Brazil sides after it thrashed Aston Villa 4-0 to stay on top of the Premiership, was ''even stronger'' than the outfit his men faced last April.
