Tourism trade surplus at 1.236 BLN euro October The Italian tourism sector registered a trade surplus of 1.326 bln euros ($1.939 bln) in October 2007, compared to a surplus of 1.305 bln euros ($1.908 bln) in the same month of 2006, the Italian Foreign Exchange Office (UIC) said.

The spending of foreign tourists in Italy showed a rise of 2.9% year-on-year to 2.658 bln euros ($3.887 bln) in October 2007, while the spending of Italian tourists abroad totalled 1.333 bln euros ($1.949 bln) in the tenth month of 2007, up 4.3% on the year.

According to UIC, the Italian tourism sector reported a trade surplus of 10.568 bln euros ($15.453 bln) for January to October 2007, against 11.482 bln euros ($16.789 bln) in the first ten months of 2006.

On an annual basis, the spending of foreign tourists in Italy increased by 1.8% to 27.922 bln euros ($40.828 bln), while the spending of Italian tourists abroad registered a rise of 8.9% and amounted to 17.354 bln euros ($25.375 bln) for January to October 2007, UIC said.
