An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale was recorded Friday morning off the eastern Sicilian coast.
The Civil Protection Department said the tremor took place at 05:37 (04:37GMT) with the epicenter located about 70km off the coast from Siracusa.
The local population felt the tremor but no damage or injuries have been reported.
A quake of 4.7 on the Richter Scale will swing open doors, wake sleeping people, break dishes, make liquids spill from open containers, move hanging pictures and cause trees to move.
