Flash News -Young designers get chance to update timeless garment - European fashion designers aged 35 and under have until October 30 to sign up for the Museo del Tessuto di Prato (Prato Textile Museum) jumpsuit competition.

According to event organizers, the jumpsuit is the most innovative, futuristic garment ever produced in Italy. Contestants will redesign this ageless frock by employing new styles, materials and shapes, from the most traditional to the most futuristic and hi-tech.

Ernesto Michaelles (known as Thayaht) first designed the outfit in 1919 he named his jumpsuit tuta , a play on the Italian word tutta (all). The name suggests the complete nature of the garment, with the missing t turning up again in the physical shape of the jumpsuit.

Participants must present one or more garments inspired by the tuta with particular emphasis on Thayaht s designs. The challenge will be capturing the originally innovative aspects more than 80 years after its invention.

The project, entitled European Tuta Award- La tuta sfida il futuro , will culminate with the show Thayaht, un artista alle origini del Made in Italy (Thayaht: An artist at the origin of Made in Italy) to be held this December in Prato. Winners will be announced during Pitti Immagine Uomo in January 2008.
