Three out of the four Italian clubs in the UEFA Cup went through to the group stage Thursday night but Napoli were eliminated.

AC Milan won 1-0 at FC Zurich to complete a 4-1 aggregate win, Sampdoria won 2-1 at Kaunas for a 7-1 aggregate score and Udinese won a penalty shoot-out against Borussia Dortmund after losing 2-0 in Germany following their 2-0 win in Udine.

Napoli lost 2-0 at Benfica following their 3-2 win at the San Paolo two weeks ago to go down 4-3 overall.

The draw for the group stage takes place in Nyon on October 7.

The group matches are on October 23, November 6, November 27, December 3/4 and December 17/18.

The top three from the eight groups will be joined by the third-placed teams in the Champions League groups for the round of 16 in February.

Last May Zenit St Petersburg won the Cup after a 2-0 victory over Rangers in Manchester.

This year's final is in Istanbul on May 20.
