Flash News - New distribution structure in place for direct sales - A new business plan is in effect for the direct sale of seafood in the Viareggio port area. The structure guarantees a producer-to-consumer outlet thanks to a shorter supply chain, similar to those already in place in Tuscany for agriculture products.
The structure we have initiated in Viareggio exemplifies the concept of the short supply chain in the seafood market, said regional agricultural and fishing superintendent, Susanna Cenni, It brings supply and demand closer together, thereby giving fishermen new market opportunities and offering consumers fresh, safe seafood at a convenient price.
The connection between producer and consumer, continued Ms. Cenni, increases market opportunities and allows for a greater selection and better appreciation of local seafood. Five new sales kiosks and one refrigeration stall have been established in the Maria Luisa wharf and have requested a 174,000 euro investment from the EU on the part of the Mare Nostrum cooperative. Approximately 118,000 euro come from community financing.
