Italians are more afraid of violence against minors and pedophilia than they are about terrorism and radical Islamic fundamentalism, according to a report from socio-economic think-tank Eurispes.
In a poll taken for its 2007 report on Italy, Eurispes found that 22.6% of Italians were most afraid of violence against children, while 9.4% feared sexual violence, 9.2% organised crime, 9% juvenile delinquency, 8.7% minor crimes like purse snatching and 8.1% illegal immigration.
Other fears of Italians included drug dealing and consumption (6.6%), corruption (4.4%), extortion and loan sharking (3.7%) and prostitution (3.4%).
Italians were least concerned about crimes regarding the environment, Eurispes found, with only 1.9% considering these a real emergency.
